New games this week include a long awaited restock of Anachrony (hurrah!), Labyrinth The Board Game plus its expansion and some animal based newbies... here's a closer look at what these games entail!
Anachrony is a competitive, epic Euro-style strategy game with worker placement at its core, set in a grim future where Earth has been rebuilt along four different ideological Paths. The game is played through a series of Eras, with a time travelling twist - players can use Time Rifts to reach back to earlier Eras as the game progresses.
Jim Henson's Labyrinth: The Board Game is a beautiful exploration of the movie for 1-5 players in which Sarah, Ludo, Sir Didymus and Hoggle must adventure through the labyrinth and make their way to the goblin city to save Toby from Jareth, the goblin king!
The game consists of two distinct stages, one in which the group must adventure through the labyrinth trying to find the goblin city whilst keeping their willpower as high as possible (nobody wants to fall into the oubliette!), and a second stage in which the players must fight their way into Jareth's castle where Sarah must say the magical words that will release her brother.
Goblins! (Labyrinth Expansion)
The Goblins! expansion for Jim Henson’s Labyrinth – The Board Game continues your collection of creatures from the movie and gives you optional rules to make more use of the goblin infantry, cavalry and artillery.
In the world of Battle Kittens, you are one of the cat king's royal cat herders, assigned to draft the cutest, strongest, wisest, and most agile kittens in the kingdom. Three battlegrounds are presented each round, with each randomly having a particular battle kitten trait played onto it. Players begin by drafting adorably ferocious kitten cards, then dividing them into squads and deploying those squads to the battlefields. The squads with the three highest point totals in a battlefield are awarded a number of fish tokens in accordance with that particular battlefield's allotment. After three rounds are completed, the cat herder with the biggest haul of fish tokens wins!
Help your animal friends fetch their favorite treats as you rotate, shift and rearrange the park to slow your foes and gather your goodies first. It's up to you to figure out who's the fastest furry friend of them all. The game is fast, fun and easy to learn!
In Seikatsu, players take turns placing tiles into a shared garden area, with each tile showing a colored flower and colored bird. Players score for groups of birds as they place them, but they score for rows of flowers only at the end of the game and only for the rows of flowers that exist from their perspective, i.e., that are viewable as lines from where they sit at the game board.
